Balik Pulau, Penang

I finally have my first walk at the local park this morning after the reunion trip.  Every breath I took slowly brought energy back to me and helped clear my writer's block, or rather 'blogger's block'.  I have to blog about this trip as Martina has so kindly volunteer my service.  Indeed she offered my services generously throughout the trip.

This is actually the third reunion trip I made.  Apology to Julie, Apo, Betty and Mary as I didn't manage to blog about the trip we made to Guilin, China 2015.

The cast:
Mary - The Boss (from Kuala Lumpur)
Martina - Treasurer (from Melbourne)
Dee Dee - (unofficial) Photographer (from Singapore)
Me -  Second-in-command (from Melbourne)

The Boss organised and planned the itinerary and we are very grateful for her effort.  We have a Treasurer who instead of looking after the finance, spent more time changing the plan ... My eyes were teary when the Boss handed me the key to her apartment; I almost cried when she handed me the key to the hotel room.  So I consider myself second-in-command.

Special thanks to Tina Tham who missed her calling to work for FBI.  She managed to track down our high school principal, Sr Anne Wong.  It took Tina a year but she found her!  Thanks to Mary and Dee Dee who made numerous calls to get hold of Sr Anne so that we would go down in history as the first students from St Elizabeth, Sibu to visit Sr Anne in Penang.

About food

As I am not a foodie I found it difficult to blog about this trip.  Indeed Martina was horrified that I can't remember what we have for dinner the night before.  Actually I couldn't remember what I have for lunch earlier ...  Don't know much about food but I learn that some people have more than 3 meals a day.  Three of us are still trying to work out how Skeleton's (aka the Treasurer) body defies nature.  She consumes voluminous amount of food but her body is as fat as a skeleton!  I have created a new unit of measurement for weight gain - chin.  One chin is approximately 5 kg.  Yes, I put on a chin this trip.

Suffice to say that we ate a lot of food this trip, one exotic dish was fish sperms.  It really has no taste.
Fish sperms

Most Memorable part of the trip ... Visit Sr Anne

The moment has finally arrived, we stopped eating for a short while and drove to Balik Pulau to visit Sr Anne.  Thanks to Christie Chong, who very generously offered her service to drive a bunch of old ladies around.  (She is the young one without glasses in the photo.)

With Sr Anne at Penang Hill

We have a wonderful time with Sr Anne.  Doesn't she look great?  She still has her great sense of humour.  I was teasing her that we would get her drunk that night.  Her most witty reply, "It would take more than one or two Asahi to get me drunk."  We enjoyed listening to her recounting some of her experiences which made us laugh so much.  She is truly a remarkable teacher.
